Rodanthe - Waves - Salvo - The Tri-Villages
Rodanthe, Waves, and Salvo make up what is referred to as the Tri-Villages. Traveling south on highway 12 Rodanthe is the first of the villages. Originally named Chicamacomico Banks, the US Post Office decided upon the name Rodanthe when a post office was established there in 1874. The historic life-saving station still bears the original name.
Hatteras Island becomes very thin as you enter Rodanthe at Mirlo Beach. The island gets wider as you get to Waves and Salvo. There are a few restaurants and shops, kiteboarding and windsurfing facilities, a fishing pier, and plenty of beautiful beaches.
